Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) has reported that number of mobile internet users in India will cross 371 million mark by June this year. This will be a 55 percent increase in the number as compared to the figures in last year.
Last year in June, the number of mobile internet users in India was 238 Million which grew to 306 million at the end of the year. This figure was largely because of increasing interest of smartphones and mobile internet in the rural parts of the country.
Out of 306 Million reported internet users at the end of 2015, 219 million were from the urban areas of the country. The Urban areas of the country saw a 71 percent year-on-year growth. At the same time, rural India has shown an amazing 93 percent growth to reach to 87 million mark at the end of 2015.
Detailed analysis of the report shows that in urban parts of the country, 80% users use mobile internet for online communication, 74% for social networking, 30% for entertainment, 13% for online shopping and 11% for online ticketing.
The trend in rural India shows a bit different data. Where 52% users use mobile internet for entertainment, 39% users use it for social networking, 37% for online communication followed by 1 percent users for online shopping and 0.4% for online ticketing.
The report by IAMAI also stated that the percent amount of mobile bill spent on mobile internet has increased to 64 percent as compared to 54 percent in 2014, this comes despite of average mobile bill decreasing 18% to Rs 360 from Rs 439 in 2014.
