According to a report published by Cybermedia Research (CMR), number of shipped smartphones in 2016 might overtake the total shipped feature phones.
The total number of estimated smartphone shipment is 250 million in 2016, up 4 percent as compared to the same numbers in 2015. Smartphones are going to drive the growth of mobiles in India and the growth is expected to be at 37 percent, up from 32 percent in last 3 years.
“Smartphones continued to show resilience and grew at an annual average growth of 32 percent while featurephones continued to shrink. The decline in feature phone shipments was 17 percent on an annual average basis.”
The main reason expected behind the growth is expansion of 4G network along with eCommerce websites reaching the tier II and tier III cities.
According to an example given by CMR, only 0.07% of total smartphones had 4GB RAM in 2013, which increases to 0.6% in 2013. The trend is all set to increase with people getting more and more done with their smartphones.
